MUFE Water Blend Foundation vs. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation
I am a fan of makeup that feels like nothing so when there is a foundation or tinted moisturizer that says “water” or “gel” I’m all over it. I had both Make Up For Ever’s Water Blend Foundation (Shade Y225) and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation (Shade 53 Beige Clair) in my drawer, and realized it was the perfect chance to compare the two. High end vs. drug store. I gave both foundations a good run for a month each and I’ve come to the conclusion that Bourjois wins hands down in both quality and price.
MUFE’s Water Blend Foundation sells for $43 and claims the following:
-provides sheer to buildable coverage
-will not transfer throughout the day
The only claim I can agree on is that this foundation is lightweight. I have had problems blending this foundation. It would get patchy and look worse the more I tried to blend. When I used synthetic brushes, there were streaks all over my face and it wouldn’t blend. When I applied with my fingers, there wasn’t a smooth finish. The best result I thought I had was from a dry beauty blender or a completely dry cushion puff because it looked blended, but really most of the foundation was coming off my face and getting absorbed into the sponge. Also, this foundation is truly for those who have nothing to cover. I’ve tried building the coverage, but was not successful. I felt like I was wasting so much of the product only to end up looking like I had done nothing. I appreciate that it is so lightweight, but it doesn’t work for me as a standalone product. I think it’s better when mixed with another foundation or concealer. You’ll see in the pictures below what I mean. One more plus that I have to give to this foundation is the shade range that is available. This one has more options than Bourjois' Healthy Mix Serum Foundation.
Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum Foundation sells for ~$17 claims the following:
-16 hour radiance booster
-even and revived complexion
-instant blending gel texture for natural finish with no mask effect
Yes, yes, and yes. If I didn’t have a good night’s sleep, this makes me look alive again. Blending this foundation is so incredibly easy and smooth. I love using a dry beauty sponge to tap this foundation in and it works like magic. Coverage is medium and looks like you’ve just had a good 8 hours for that “glow from within.” This is a no brainer foundation that is great for people on the go who want easy, no fuss makeup. This foundation lasted me a good 8-9 hours. If I use primer and properly set it with powder, then it stays on and on. :) No patches, no texture, just smooth, beautiful skin. Bourjois only has 6 shades for this foundation so it's not a very good selection and there are no shades for those who have darker complexions. There is some flexibility within the shades and undertones so I was able to find a pretty good match. I don't know how they formulated this foundation to do that, but the shades are more forgiving so if you're in between colors or tones you should still be able to find one that will work for you. I can’t say enough good things about this foundation so check out the photos below. I feel like it didn’t even capture just how glowy (not oily) my skin looked in person.
