Troiareuke ACSEN Pore Control Mask Review

★★★ Out of 5

Pros: Great on good skin days

Cons: Not much help on bad skin days

Available via Amazon

Clay masks are every oily skinned, acne-prone, large pored, person’s best friend.  My best friend! They’re a must have to suck out all the excess sebum, clean out your pores, and calm acne/pimples. I’ve been loyal to my Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask for many years, but it’s time to try something new! When I was shopping for Troiareuke products in Korea I picked up the ACSEN Pore Control Mask to try out. Troiareuke products are quite pricey, but what I’ve tried (like the cleanser or cushion) was worth it so lets see if this mask makes the cut!

What It Is

The Troiareuke ACSEN Pore Control Mask is a kaolin clay mask designed for acne prone, sensitive skins. It claims to lift skin and tightens pores. It removes sebum, dirt, and tones and calms the skin without being over drying.  The 50ml version sells for $38 and the 200ml sells for $76.

Ingredients

Water, Kaolin, Propanediol, Bentonite, Butylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Dimethyl Sulfone, Hydroxyacetophenone, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Moroccan Lava Clay, Dipotassium Glycrrhizate, Betaine, Allantoin, Octyldodecanol, Poncirus Trifoliata Fruit Extract, Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Cardiospermum Halicacaburn Flower/Leaf/Vine Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables, Fragrance

Ingredient Analysis

No harmful ingredients here. Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (licorice extract) and Allantoin are great anti-inflammatory, sensitive skin friendly ingredients. There is supposed to be cuttlefish bone powder here (where in the ingredient list this is I have no idea…), which improves skin barrier and elasticity. Poncirus Trifoliata Fruit Extract (Troiareuke calls this one Grapefruit Extract) provides redness relief.

Results

This mask has an interesting fragrance, which I’ll try my best to describe. At first sniff, you’ll notice a combination of clean and flowery notes. But, you’ll soon notice that it’s covering something else up. That part is difficult to describe. It doesn’t smell bad, but it’s not exactly pleasant either. I’m guessing it’s just the clay components, and it reminds me of very mild sulfur. Overall it’s not a deal breaker, but this is for all you who are extremely sensitive to fragrances.

This clay mask is conveniently packaged in a squeeze tube so there’s no mess and a little goes a long way. You don’t need to spread this on thickly for it to be effective. The texture is quite thin so application is also very quick and easy.

I normally use clay masks when my skin is misbehaving so naturally I tested this when my skin was red, breaking out, etc. There was no redness relief, no change in size of my pimples, my pores still had visible dirt in them, and my skin was not soothed. To compare, I get instant results with my Aztec Clay Mask so you can imagine my disappointment. However, one day I decided to use this mask on a good skin day. Interestingly enough I could see a difference. My skin was brighter, there was less redness around my nose, my forehead was glowing (what?!), and my skin overall just looked more clear and even. Is that weird or what? Admittedly, the pores on my nose weren’t totally cleared out, but I could see that it got 70% of it. Not bad!

So, I’m kind of confused now. Maybe I should be using clay masks as a preventative measure?

Conclusion

I’m not totally convinced this mask is worth it. It does leave the skin quite pretty if you don’t have any skin troubles, but if you’re like me and expecting it to work on angry, red, pimples then you might be disappointed. Am I the only one who experienced this?
