Does The Troiareuke ACSEN Selemix Serum Really Work? | Review

Holy moly! I was on the road today for a quick drive and was surprised with a sea of cars, parents, and kids. SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION! And just like that, summer is over. Which also means the holidays are literally four months away!!! Excitement is brewing over here. Ok, that’s not the point of this post. The point is I want to talk about Troiareuke’s ACSEN Selemix Serum. Yes, another Troiareuke ACSEN product... at this rate I think I'm just 2 products away from trying the whole ACSEN line. Anyway, this serum claims to help with acne scars so it was the first thing I bought when I visited their shop! Troiareuke isn't the most affordable so let's answer the question everyone wants to know. Is it worth it and does it work?

What It Is

The Selemix Serum is a two in one formula designed to calm sensitive skin and minimize acne scars. It is used after toning and before moisturizing. The serum comes in two sizes so you can get 100ml for $156 or 40ml for $62.  My wallet... it cried a little.

Ingredient Analysis

Water,Dipropylene Glycol,Butylene Glycol,Glycerin,Ethoxydiglycol,Betaine,Silica,Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract,Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer,Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water,Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer ,Octyldodeceth-16,PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil,Mineral Oil,Magnolia Kobus Bark Extract,Glycine Soja (Soybean) sprout Extract,1,2-Hexanediol,Caprylyl Glycol,Carbomer,Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract,Citrus Junos Fruit Extract,Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Extract,Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract,Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Extract,Tromethamine,Trideceth-6,Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil,Salicylic Acid,Propylene Glycol,C12-14 Pareth-12,Xanthan Gum,Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Extract,Sciadopitys Verticillata Root Extract ,Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil,Portulaca Oleracea Extract,Beta-Glucan,Canavalia Gladiata Fruit Extract,Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil,Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil,Sodium Hyaluronate,Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Oil,Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil,Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil

According to the ads, this serum contains some form of fermented bean and magnolia tree bark that is super magical and will restore our super messed up skin! Hahaha at least that was my interpretation. Just at a glance, more than half the ingredient list is plant extracts! Clove Flower Extract eases inflammation, Sophora (anyone else read that as Sephora at first glance?) extract kills bacteria and soothes eczema, and Portulacaoleracea Extract moisturizes. A few of the extracts and oils serve to provide fragrance, and others just moisturize.

Tucked away in the list is my super trusty Salicylic Acid! I love Salicylic Acid when it comes to fighting and preventing acne- it’s gentler and helps bring out that glow!  Also to my surprise, was castor oil! I was told that castor oil is an effective, natural remedy to heal scars so I can see why this was added.

No artificial fragrances added and no significantly harmful ingredients found.

Maybe I just had really high expectations, but it took a few uses for me to feel a difference in my skin. This serum looks like a silicon makeup primer, but it actually feels watery when you rub it in. I smelled citrus notes, but it was light and non-irritating.

I give it an A+ for helping to improve skin barrier, and keeping it healthy and strong. I could really feel a difference in this category after 2 weeks of continued use. I don’t know how else to describe it, but my skin felt… solid. Any of you sensitive skin friends know what I mean.

I give it another A for being moisturizing and gentle, but it was a total fail for scar improvement. I didn’t notice my pigmentation scars healing significantly faster, which was the whole point of me trying this serum. Aside from that, it still feels good on the skin, absorbs really smoothly, and leaves a soft finish.

Is the Selemix Serum worth it? To be honest, I don’t think so. It’s a decent product and offers some good skin benefits, but the $60+ price tag and lack of scar improvement makes me hesitant to repurchase. Does it work? It works to make your skin feel more resilient, but that's about it. If that's all you're looking for then this serum is worth trying, but if you're still looking for that unicorn serum like I am, our search continues!
