Becca Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder Review

Sephora! You got me all excited with this new sale! Now I don’t have to wait until November! The sale has already started for Rouge members, but for VIB and BI’s the sale will start on August 30th! During the spring VIB sale several months back, I purchased the Becca Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder, and it’s high time I write up this review in time for the sale!

What It Is

The Becca Hydra-Mist is a setting powder that gives a cooling, refreshing, mist-like feeling when applied on the skin. It is a very fine powder formulated with 50% water and glycerin that also blurs out imperfections and leaves skin feeling ultra smooth. This powder comes in a double-lidded plastic powder case with a mesh net so things don’t get messy. You get 0.35 oz / 10g of product for $38.

Ingredient Analysis

Water, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polymethylsislesquioxane, Silica Silylate, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Silica, Mica, Dipropylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Potassium Sorbate, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491)

Some of you who are aware of silica might not like this powder since it’s not clear exactly what form it’s in. In theory amorphous silica (read more here) is the form used in cosmetics, which is safe and FDA approved. The other form is crystalline silica, which is hazardous. I’m giving Becca the benefit of the doubt that they’re using the safe form of silica so I hope I’m not wrong! Aside from that, no significantly harmful ingredients found.

I have only had one setting powder that I swore by and that was RCMA’s No-Color Powder. Not anymore! The Becca Hydra-Mist powder is such a finely milled powder that I never look cakey, my face feels ultra soft and smooth, it gives a blurring effect, and it makes my makeup look softer. It’s like a snapchat filter for your face in real life. The added bonus is the cooling sensation you get when applied to the skin. Having used it for 4 months now I have noticed that cooling sensation is less noticeable. Other users have also reported the same experience despite keeping both lids tightly closed.

Regardless of the cool, mist-like feeling, it’s still a great setting powder and I definitely recommend it for everyone an all skin types, even older skins, as it is forgiving with lines and pores. I can bake my entire face with this powder as generously as I want without fear of looking over powdered. It holds up quite well with my combo skin and lasts through sweat and heat!  The lasting power is equal to the RCMA powder, but it looks and feels better! This powder is photo friendly and I didn’t experience any photo flashback so you don’t have to worry about looking like a ghost!
